Viva Las Vegas! The City for Adults… Or Is It?

When you think of Las Vegas, the first things that probably come to mind are neon lights, slot machines, casinos, and over-the-top nightlife. But what if I told you Las Vegas can be just as much of a family destination as any other major vacation spot?

While Las Vegas may carry the nickname “Sin City,” there are surprisingly many family-friendly attractions and activities that visitors of all ages can enjoy.

Did you know there is an entire amusement park right on the Strip?

Adventuredome, located inside Circus Circus Las Vegas on the north end of the Strip, is an indoor amusement park that feels like stepping into a giant state fair. Inside, you will find rides like the Disc’O, a giant spinning saucer that rocks side to side while rotating at high speeds.

Remember that fair ride that made you regret eating beforehand because it flipped you upside down over and over again? Well, the Inverter is basically that ride on steroids. With nonstop flipping and spinning, you are almost guaranteed to leave with a head rush.

Not only does the Adventuredome feature classic carnival-style rides, but it is also home to two roller coasters: Canyon Blaster and El Loco. Between the corkscrews, loops, and sudden drops, thrill seekers will definitely get their adrenaline fix.

Fan of roller coasters?

At the opposite end of the Strip, New York-New York Hotel & Casino is home to the famous The Big Apple Coaster. Reaching speeds of 67 MPH with a 180-degree heartline twist and a 203-foot drop, this coaster is guaranteed to get your heart pounding.

Maybe amusement parks are not really your family’s thing—and that is perfectly okay because Las Vegas offers far more than rides and casinos.

Across the street from New York-New York sits Excalibur Hotel & Casino, home to Tournament of Kings, a live dinner show featuring jousting knights, horseback battles, and medieval-style entertainment that can be fun for both kids and adults alike.

Are sports more your speed? Las Vegas has quickly become one of the newest major sports cities in the United States and is now home to the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights and the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders. Whether you are a die-hard sports fan or simply looking for something different to experience during your trip, attending a game can be an exciting addition to your vacation. Be sure to check the official NFL and NHL websites before traveling—you may discover a game happening during your stay.

While the nonstop energy of the Strip is part of what makes Las Vegas exciting, sometimes stepping away from the crowds can be the perfect break. Beyond the casinos and bright lights, the surrounding area offers incredible natural beauty and historic attractions.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, located just west of the city, features nearly 30 hiking trails where visitors can explore the stunning desert landscape and learn about the Native American tribes that once lived in the area.

Another great escape from the city is Mount Charleston. With more than a dozen hiking trails and scenic overlooks, visitors can experience a completely different side of Nevada. During the winter months, the area even becomes a destination for skiing and snowboarding.

Of course, no trip outside Las Vegas would be complete without visiting the legendary Hoover Dam. Built within the Black Canyon along the Colorado River, the Hoover Dam was once considered one of the greatest engineering marvels in the world. While it may not operate at the same capacity it once did, it remains an incredible place to visit. Guided tours even take visitors inside the dam itself, where you can see the massive turbines responsible for generating electricity for the surrounding region.

Of course, Las Vegas would not truly be Las Vegas without its world-famous entertainment.

From Cirque du Soleil productions to magic acts, comedy shows, concerts, and celebrity residencies, there is almost always something happening somewhere on the Strip. Whether you want to watch breathtaking acrobatics, laugh through a comedy performance, or hear your favorite artist live, the city offers entertainment for nearly every age group and interest.

Las Vegas is also home to several unique museums and exhibits that are worth adding to your itinerary. The Neon Museum gives visitors a look into the history of the city through restored vintage signs from old casinos and hotels. The Mob Museum dives into the fascinating history of organized crime and law enforcement in America, while attractions like AREA15 offer immersive art installations and interactive experiences that feel unlike anything else in the city.

What makes Las Vegas such an interesting destination is that it truly can be whatever you want it to be. For some, it is nonstop nightlife and casinos. For others, it is roller coasters, hiking trails, sports, live entertainment, and unforgettable attractions.

Las Vegas may always carry the reputation of “Sin City,” but it is also much more family-friendly and diverse than many people expect.
